Google has finally started showing up time zone conversions right within the search page:
A pretty useful feature that was long overdue for someone like who attends webinars hosted in different time zones. :)

I encountered a situation with a low powered Linux machine wherein the screen resolution would not persist after restart. I used to change the screen resolution under ‘Monitor Settings’. The Linux distro in question was a custom build based on OpenSUSE Xfce. That’s when I took to creating a new xorg.conf file with necessary parameters!

At my home town we have a BSNL Broadband connection powering a dual boot PC. As someone who likes to be on Ubuntu all the time, several websites (Yahoo, Wordpress.com blogs etc.) opening up slowly or not opening at all was a major problem for me. Surprisingly the same sites used work fine on Windows with same Internet connection. While I always knew that MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) was the culprit, I never got an opportunity to fix it. This time I decided to fix it as we had recently migrated to a 512 Kbps connection and this is incomparable to my Beam Fiber connection at Hyderabad, all thanks to end of a golden era!

Recently I had a requirement where I had to enter special characters in a German Windows Operating System (Virtual Machine) with US English Keyboard. The characters were \, /, @ etc. While unicode code points were an obvious solution, I realized that there was a better one in the form of AltGr and another key.
The ALT GR key is on the right side of the keyboard on some non-U.S. keyboard layouts. ALT GR is equivalent to the CTRL+ALT key combination, and you can use it with other keys to enter additional characters.
